Creepy crawlies
I have always been fascinated by invertebrates. Some of the earliest photos I’ve taken involved filling up an entire roll of a disposable film camera while attempting to take pictures of common garden spiders along the wall of a childhood home. Needless to say, mom was surprised to find 20+ photos showing nothing but the shadow of a 5 year-old Nick on the wall once it was developed (I obviously did not understand the concept of macro photography—or shadows—back then).
Through my macro photography, I try to showcase invertebrates in a new light. These little creatures outnumber us 200 million+ to one (human), yet most of us only pay attention to them while looking for the nearest newspaper to roll up or escorting them outdoors. I personally view them as little aliens that live in our backyard. Taking a photo of a new insect and/or spider that I have never photographed before leaves me with a sense of excitement, as I can’t wait to see what they “actually” look like up close once they’ve been uploaded to my computer. Hopefully my photos will allow you to have a new appreciation for our 6+ legged friends. Except for mosquitoes….. no quarters are given to those bloodsuckers.
